This course familiarises students with critical concepts, tools, and frameworks of procurement and strategic sourcing. It is designed to enhance students’ awareness and understanding of the pivotal role played by procurement professionals in driving organizational profitability, cost efficiency, and industry competitiveness.

The course positions procurement not merely as a transactional function, but as a core strategic capability that directly influences an organization’s cost structure, risk exposure, supplier relationships, and long-term competitive advantage. Students will examine how sourcing decisions, contract management, operational alignment, and supplier performance contribute to sustainable value creation.

Emphasis is placed on the integration of procurement strategy with broader corporate objectives, including global sourcing, supplier evaluation and selection, negotiation strategy, sustainability, supplier diversity, and risk management in complex supply chains.

Furthermore, the course critically examines the ethical, contractual, and legal dilemmas that may arise in the procurement process. Students will develop the analytical and managerial competencies required to distinguish between ethical and non-ethical sourcing practices and to address procurement challenges responsibly and strategically within diverse organizational and global contexts.

By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the strategic insight and practical skills necessary to contribute meaningfully to procurement excellence and organizational competitiveness in both local and international environments.
